PERSONAL |
This section is designed to get to know me better on a personal level in case you are interested. Here you can know more about my musical path and my interests. Being a people person I like to exchange and get to know people and how they live.
So here goes...
Music
Without a doubt music is my life. In any shape, style or form music will hopefully be always part of my life. It would be very hard to imagine it without.
I always loved music as a child but never knew you could study or play it until my teen years. A friend had a drum set (or was he a friend because of it ?? hihi who knows) and after trying it once or twice, that was it I was hooked.
After working two month babysitting my cousins I purchased my first drum set which I still own to this day. Then I was invited too see a "clinic" by this "professional" on the set by the sale person at the store. I went and that performance literally change my view what could be done and should be done in order to be a professional. The drummer; Rick Gratton. High standard indeed!
In high school I would literally spend most on my time in class secretly listening to tape or cd of stuff I was trying to learn to practice that night once school finished. It was that obsessive for me. I remember know one knowing my name but everyone knowing I played music and drum set. And wasn't necessarily listening to what my peers would listen to either. I remember bringing a copy of Sting's Ten Sumner Tales to school and a friend asking what the hell is that? To which I answered something of: "ah yeah well the drummer is from this old screwed up metal band of the 70's." (Vinnie with Zappa.)
To my friend satisfaction and my amusement.
College years were of branching out and jamming with as many people possible in order to learn more and get creative. If I had the power, I would record all the songs I did in this period and would easily have a triple cd of very good music. It was just that fun and prolific. Helas, most of the bands didn't t seem to go beyond the practice space. Some would play shows and only one would record a demo to which got airplay on the local radio station. But the saddest is that I lost MY ONLY COPY. Maybe one day I will bump into one of them? Who knows.
Now I am doing it all and still enjoy to just sit and listen to old favourites or something I never heard before. If it has a strong melody and honest lyrics then I will surely like it.
Being a fan of John Cusak's High Fidelity (do yourself a favour and watch it) here's would be my top ten record and couldn't live without. In no particular order cause that's just to hard.
Michel Rivard - Le Goût de l'Eau
Richard Seguin - Aux Portes Du Matin
Sting - Ten Summners Tale
Thunderdrums - Scott Fitzgerald
The Police - all records ( I m cheating I know) if not Regatta De Blanc for its raw energy.
Led Zeppelin - Houses of the Holy
Mötley Crüe - Dr.Feelgood
Dave Brubeck - Time Out
Rush - Signals
Juliana Hatfield - Become What You Are
In short, whenever or were ever I've been music has been there with me. I wake up I hear it. I go to bed and wake up because I have ideas to write. Like the book by Mark Hudson, music is just in my head!
To summarize, nothing beats a nice stretch of highway with a vehicle of choice and good tunes! NOTHING!!
Which brings us to the next subject...
Motorcycling
Now this is my latest obsession. Classic case of seeing them as a kid and not ALLOWED to have one! My parents wanted my well being. After all I did crash my bicycle quite a few times in my years. But once income and time where not an issue nothing could stop me. Of course a friend who had one did give me a ride first to see if I like these things. (those friend with certain items comes in real handy apparently)
Next up was the purchase of one. Oh boy Oh boy! Now being the first bike I was smart and didn't t buy the latest bullet but went for a classic bike called the Nighthawk by Honda. With 500$ in hand I would do 6500-7000 kms on it in one season. How Quebec is sooo beautiful o a bike. It died on me being quite out of shape but oh the fun. (see pic)
Now own is a 1983 Yamaha Seca 900 . My little red Barchetta if I may. I looove classic bikes! Mostly because their easy to fix and actually ridable for more than an hour compared to those pocket rockets. (see pic)

The attraction? Senses are exposed to everything making the ride ever so vivid , or miserable depending on the weather, since you smell, feel, hear even taste what's going on around you. The other side is that other motorcyclist have A TRUMENDOUS RESPECT FOR EACH OTHER. Once you ride your in a group, like it or not, that watches out for each other in a way I've never felt before. Age, class type or motorcycle you ride matters not for everyone give the traditional "hello with the hand signal" when one passes another. Fantastic! Of course they are group riding, meeting at various places for breakfast and a ride..etc..too many to list but in short it's a big family. Which yes gets to me when la SAAQ announces eye popping rises to insurance and plates just to ride. All because of guys and gals who seem to think that motorcycles are made to defy the signs, laws and other vehicles on the road just because they can.
But let's not mix up to much politics here.:O)
That's all for now more to come soon. |
